LIFE/Family

Obviously, human life can be created outside of a family structure, but "in the beginning" LIFE was meant to be created by a biological man uniting with a biological woman in a lifetime commitment of marriage to form a family within which they create new life, their children.
Who cares about that today? CHILDREN DO! Empirical studies show that children generally function best in every way when they have their biological mom and biological dad lovingly caring for them from conception to adulthood.
ALL human life is sacred, a gift from God as the supremely intelligent Creator. Some believe that humans accidentally evolved and have no special status in the universe. Here we come to a fork in the road where each of these beliefs often leads to opposing decisions and consequences.
Rational, restorative consequences deriving from the foundational idea of God as Creator of LIFE tell us that we should:
- Respect and protect all human life from conception to natural death.
- Not only care about one another, but love and honor every person because each one of us is uniquely, wonderfully, and fearfully made.
- Voluntarily come alongside and embrace those who suffer.
- Welcome the sojourner or the refugee who is willing to honor the culture, government, and laws that citizens of the host country honor.
- Care for this beautiful earth—which has been entrusted to us by God for our wonder, pleasure and benefit.
- Honor the sacredness of marriage as it was designed to be.
"[T]he battle over abortion is a much deeper battle for the soul of the culture and its worldview" (A Hunger for God, John Piper, 148). Do you remember the profound, soul-searching words of Mother Teresa at the 1995 National Prayer Breakfast? They are worth repeating:
I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child—a direct killing of the innocent child . . .
